Proud mentor moment
Completely thrilled to be at the Grinling Gibbons award in London when the very talented Jo Grogan, who I have been mentoring, won the wood carving category!
Jo is a first year student on the City and Guilds wood carving course in London and was up against other finalists with a lot more experience than her. Her passion and inspiration were clear from the start, and she put in some incredibly long hours to finish her extraordinary piece in time for the exhibition at Bonhams.
Jo’s piece was clever, crisp, serious, and surreal reflecting both Gibbons and contemporary Art imagery. She took inspiration from Grinling Gibbons iconic lace cravat also featured in the exhibition and from Alexander McQueen - a nod to her previous career in fashion. So proud!

New teaching studio
I've moved my workshop from Frome to the lovely Old School in Walton, deepest Somerset. It's much bigger and I've taken over running regular weekly woodcarving classes. They start up from the end of September on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday mornings. Check out my other website here if you are interested. www.oldschoolcarving.co.uk.
